Toonz Academy opens its second centre in Kerala.

Toonz Academy, the training division of award winning Toonz Animation Studio has opened its second centre in Kerala on 27th of November 2008. Since launching its first centre in Trivandrum in the year 2003, Toonz Academy has opened centres in Mumbai, Nagpur, Indore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Ahmedabad. The new centre in Calicut will be the second centre in Kerala.   “ The launch of Calicut centre has been done taking in to consideration the rich artistic tradition of Malabar. There is a growing demand in this region for better training facilities in the field of animation and gaming says Mr. Ramaprasad, Executive Director, Toonz Academy. 

Mr. Bhaskaran, Additional District Magistrate inaugurated the centre.             Mr. Harish Vijayakumar, (CEO Movingstilz- Chennai), Mr. Kamath (President CITI), and Mr. Binu Raj, (National Head-Marketing –Toonz Academy) were present on the occasion. The inauguration was followed by a technical sessions handled by Mr. Harish Vijayakumar, Mr. Tranquiliono Gernale (Dean- Toonz Academy) and Mr. Vinod A.S (3D Head - Toonz Academy)
 
Mr. Gernale who has worked on productions like 101 Dalmatians, Winnie The Pooh, Tom & Jerry, briefed the crowd about the basics of 2D animation with illustration techniques.

Sharing his experiences and difficulties faced in the making of Dashavatharam, Mr. Harish shared his school days in Vancouver, his professional stint with some of the best SP FX companies in Canada and his early days in animation- how he started of with MS Paint and later graduated to Photoshop. He stressed up on the importance of sound basic knowledge in the 2D principles, the approach, the attitude, and patience needed to make it big. He also shared the final versions of various flicks like Dashavatharam, Kandaswamy where VFX effects were used and explained the techniques that made it possible.  He did have a word of praise for the Toonz Academy curriculum, which he felt, is almost comparable to the one he did at Van Arts.

Mr. Vinod who emphasized the need of specializing in 3D wound up the session with a show reel of some of the best works done by academy students who are placed in top studios across India.
